The first day of the conference consists of two sessions of presentations and three workshops. “Turning societal concerns into a welfare initiative’ is the title of the first session. Here, senior project members and external stakeholders will speak on important and timely topics like: ‘Establishing the need for Welfare assessment’, ‘Addressing societal concerns’, ‘The rationale behind Welfare Quality® assessment of animal welfare’; ‘The EU approach’. The second session concentrates on “Turning welfare principles into practice: the approach followed by Welfare Quality®. Firstly, we will present and discuss one of our major achievements, namely the first (experimental) monitoring schemes and how these can be @end-1@ @start-2@employed in a product information system. The session also includes presentations on the ‘Benefits of implementing improvement strategies developed in Welfare Quality®’ and the ‘Exploration of strategies to implement welfare schemes’. There will be ample opportunity for attendees to ask questions and contribute to discussions around these topics. Participants are also invited to contribute to one of the three workshops that will be held in the afternoon: ► Improving welfare through product information; ► How to reconcile producers’ and society’s interests on welfare grounds; ► Globalisation of animal welfare.@end-2@
